The Graduation Ceremony
The Graduation Ceremony for the 2023-2024 Academic Year was held on May 16, 2024, in the foyer area of the GUBY Asiye Karadeniz Building.
The ceremony was attended by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya, GUBY Director Dr. Lecturer Hande Kandur Arslan, Gökçeada Vocational School Director Dr. Lecturer Gülay Keskin, Quality Improvement and Institutional Monitoring Coordinator Dr. Lecturer Erdem Kan, Deputy Secretary General Lecturer Tanju Güdük, GUBY staff, academicians, students, and guests.
The ceremony commenced with a speech by Mine Kök, the top graduate of the GUBY 2023-2024 Academic Year Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department. In her speech, Mine Kök highlighted how quickly their four years of education in Gökçeada had passed and expressed her gratitude to all the academic and administrative staff for their efforts. Following this, Gökçeada Applied Sciences School Director Dr. Lecturer Hande Kandur Arslan took the stage to address the graduates and their families, emphasizing the significance of the day. Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya also delivered a speech, expressing the pride COMU would feel from the contributions and successes of the graduates in their future endeavors. The diploma ceremony followed these speeches.
The diploma ceremony began with Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya presenting the certificate of achievement to Mine Kök, the top graduate of the GUBY 2023-2024 Academic Year Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department. This was followed by the presentation of the Social Contribution Award under the COMU Bests to Mine Kök, Gülnaz Meyda, Ümit Getirici, Ersan Saygın Güneş, and Lecturer Zeynep Ceren Akkök for winning the world championship for the second time in the inter-university category at the 2023 World Halal Summit Chefs Championship. Dr. Lecturer Senem Ergan was also awarded the Education/Teaching Quality Award under the COMU Bests for her contributions to enhancing the quality of education through her academic advisory services in the 2023 TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program. Mayor Bülent Ecevit Atalay presented the certificate of achievement to Şule Batur, the second-place graduate of the Gökçeada Applied Sciences School Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, and GUBY Director Dr. Lecturer Hande Kandur Arslan presented the certificate to Gülnaz Meyda, the third-place graduate. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to all graduates, the tossing of caps, group/individual photo sessions and the offerings.
